Joining the Club

Important information for anyone wishing to join the club

Firstly a word of warning, Tredagh Trekkers is a hiking club, not a ramblers club.

To join the club:

You must be aged 18 years or over.

You should have a reasonable level of fitness to begin with as even a typical C Grade “Moderate” hike will cover 10 kilometres over rough terrain with differing underfoot conditions and involve at least one peak (probably over 500 metres).

By the time you come out on your first hike with the club you will have the ‘Must Have’ hiking gear. Check out the hiking gear needed by clicking Here

Hiking is a strenuous activity – it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY if you have a medical condition that you have your doctor’s agreement that it is OK to come out with the club.

Where you have a medical condition that may lead to you having to take medication whilst out on a hike you must inform the club in advance.

IMPORTANT: New members (whether experienced or not) must complete at least one C grade hike before attempting a B grade hike.

The Club mainly organises two types of hikes:

C Grade (Moderate) Hikes

These hikes take place every second Sunday for most of the year.

Typically these hikes are at least 10/12 kilometres in length taking around 4 to 6 hours to complete. The hikes will include at least one peak.

While some hikes may be include tracks and trails with reasonable underfoot conditions some may also include a lot of rough terrain on which underfoot conditions could be grass, rock, mud, gravel or a combination of all four.

The hikes are accessible to most people who have a reasonable level of fitness.

The pace is fairly easy going and there are usually plenty of chances to stop and catch a breath as well as two longer stops for a cup of tea/coffee and something to eat.

B Grade (Medium/Difficult) Hikes

These hikes take place every second Sunday for most of the year.

Typically these hikes are at least 15/20 kilometres in length taking around 5 to 6 hours to complete. The hikes will include two or more peaks. The pace is brisker and breaks are fewer.

Only experienced members who regularly go out on B Grade hikes can attempt this grade of hike (which normally takes place once a year).
